Weather Change....

Hey everyone! Well, we are pretty much in the clear for Abby to have her baby, It is almost the first of the new year, so I am very relieved! You guys remember when Missy had her first foal, Lucy, and she was due on the 4th of Jan, but we didn't think she would make it to the first!?! I was so nervous. So, today I am going to get some straw, better late then never.... We are having a drop in the barometric pressure tonight, which for some reason can case mares to get ready or even have the foal, funny how that happens. So maybe her bag will get really big tonight! Man, you guys should hear the wind blowing, it is just howling up against the house! You can tell that Abby has been uncomfortable, but I just don't think her bag is ready yet, it just hasn't "blow-up" to where it doesn't look like it could get any bigger. Then again, that means nothing. Fixation did the exact same thing this yr, her bag didn't look all that big till after she foaled! Mares.... Tonight we are going out to dinner around 5, and them we may be out till around 9 to 10, so please keep an eye on my girl, we will have both of the phones listed on the cam! If you really think she may be in early labor, or in labor, not hesitate to call. Remember this will be her first foal, so labor will probably look pretty obvious. Also remember that just because she is laying down, doesn't mean she is in labor! LOL.

Lady update: So, this morning Lady had a tiny bit more blood. We called the vet again, and he is thinking that her mucus plug may be the culprit. I really hope that is all that is. Lady does "bleed" when she gives birth, more than other mares I have had, so maybe that is the problem. Thanks for your continued prayers for Lady and her baby! And for all of our horses, I am so thankful that you all can be apart of this! Have a great night! Taylor

Not much.....

Abby's bag has regressed a bit today, but I am ok with that, since it isn't even the first of the yr yet! lol. I am probably going to start leaving a halter on her at night, so if she does foal, I have one on just in case we need to grab her. So, I don't think she will be going tonight, lol, but who knows, by tomorrow she could be waxing up, these mares kill me! I put up some curtains on the outside of the stall, so she will have some privacy when we are in the barn during foaling. Of course, if she only knew how many people will be watching her.... lol.

Well, we had a pretty good scare last night with Lady, who is in the next stall over from Abby. I was giving them there "midnight" snack, and as I was pouring Lady's feed I noticed a small amount of blood in the stall, and some under her tail. My heart skipped a few beats, let me tell you. She was perfectly fine, other than the blood, she was eating all her hay and feed, had gone to the bathroom a few times, wasn't sweating, her bag hasn't even started developing, or having labored breathing, her eyes were bright, and all she wanted was a tummy rub (probably her favorite thing in the world!). We called the vet, and he didn't seem to worried after we explained how she was acting. He said there wasn't really anything we could do, even if something was wrong. So I am still not sure what really happened. It wasn't a lot of blood, but it was bright red, and not "watered" down. He did say that a lot of mare get really itchy about 30 days before there foaling date. So maybe she was itching her rear and sightly injured herself. I hope that is all it is. There was no more blood today, or early this morning. Please do pray for Lady and her unborn foal, it could just be a false alarm, but i would appreciate it! Thanks, Taylor

Funny Day

Well, we had an eventful day today here. It started out as a normal Saturday, doing lots of horse chores, like getting all the horses feet trimmed, they all did great by the way, etc. Well, after i did that I was walking up to the house to make something to eat, I am starving at this point, and the dogs are barking like mad. Well this huge Bull Mastiff comes walking in the yard like he owns the place, that didn't make our four dogs to happy. So, after they chased him and his other four-legged friend out of the yard, i went back in the house to see that they just keep coming back, finally the dog figured out he wasn't welcome. I wasn't worried to much, I just worry about dogs eating my cats, who see dogs as friends! So, I make my lunch, and am resting on the couch when the dogs start barking all crazy again, I go outside to find a skunk! Yuck, it has sprayed everywhere! Of course it runs into the garage, and now the house smells of skunk, the whole property smells that way! What a day...

Abby, as many of you saw, wasn't happy last night. She was very uncomfortable. Her bag wasn't showing any signs of going, so i wasn't to worried after she starting napping. Her belly has dropped down, so her baby is all ready to come out, when ever that is. I think that was what all the action was about last night. Missy does that every year, then about two to three days later, she has her baby. Abby is a maiden mare, but seems to be one that will show the "normal" signs, like Missy. We don't want another Fixation, lol. I forgot to buy straw today, lovely. I will just have to get it on Monday. So, not much change in her today, except that her belly has dropped down, and her bag is very big! Thanks for Watching! For all of you who don't know what horse is on the start image on the cam, it is Missy, I just love that pic, so I decided to put it on there! Have a great night! Taylor

Nothing New

Hey all, Abby's bag has draw up sightly, but even before that happened, it hasn't really filled out completely! Which, I don't mind, since I do want her to what till the new year to foal out! We will be having a drop in the barometric pressure on Jan 1, so who knows, she may starting coming on real fast after that! I think I am going ahead and will buy some straw tomorrow, so she doesn't catch me unprepared. Remember, Abby is a maiden mare, and a recipient mare, carrying our recently sold mare Wait up Sis and Mr. Yella Fella. So, we shouldn't be seeing any of her cute spots on this baby, lol. I guess I am going to start having my nightly barn checks soon, and its really cold, brrrr. Do you think we should do another name theme this year? May be fun! Lets just pray we are getting some fillies! The only one I am pretty sure is having a filly is Fixation, watch the guess totally blow up in my face! LOL. When we had all fillies in 06, I guessed Lady's right, but was positive that Missy was having a colt! Well look on the bright side, it is a 50-50 guess! Taylor

Abby

Hello, hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas! We all did here. Abby is just plugging along, her bag is getting really big! I think she will foal very close around her due date, later would suit me just fine, I am enjoying my sleep! She is just as fat as she can be, I have never seen a maiden mare that big! I know, Abby is a maiden mare, not really something I enjoy, but she is a great mare, and she looks like she will be a milker! I really love her... Scout and Abby are best buds. Just to let everone know the rolling text on the camera isn't updating for some reason, I am trying to fix it as we speak. So please ignore it and know that we are getting closer to getting our first foal of the year. She is due on the 2nd. Oh yeah, would someone post a reply on the blog for me, I haven't seen on in a while and I am worried it isn't working, or maybe no one is reading these and I am talking to myself... lol. Thanks. I will be updating every day now, so check in! Taylor

She is carrying the foal out of Wait Up Sis, and Mr. Yella Fella. This should be an amazing foal. I must apologize early for this unborn foals future competition in the show ring, so sorry. One more week......

Merry Christmas everyone! (early Christmas anyways, lol). I can't believe it is only a week away, how time flies right?!? All the horses have good winter coats and are warm and toasty. I think horses look so cute when they "puff" up! We started bringing Lady and Abby up, so they can eat without worry about the other horses taking their share. (Lady and Abby both are very low in the herd, they are wimps, lol.) We don't have Abby in the "cam" stall because we wanted her to be able to see Lady, she will stay in that stall until she gets closer. The less stress on her the better for the time being. I am working on getting the cam up as we speak, and it will be up and running soon! As many of you know we usually go to Colorado for Christmas, but it has been a crazy fall/winter, so we decided to just stay home. I am happy with that decision, since Miss Abby is due the first few days of January. Hope everyone is enjoying this happy time of year, Merry Christmas, Taylor
