Scottie Had a Colt, Prayers Needed!

Ok everyone. As you all know, Scottie was in labor yesterday evening and this morning. We concluded that something was wrong, this was taking way to long. We called our vet, and decided to rush her up to his clinic, we had found lots of pinkish puss on her back end. Our vet was in the middle of an emergency c-section at his clinic, we can to him. He put Scottie in the stocks, and told us that most likely the foal was dead. But when he put his hand up in her, he found that not only want the baby not dead is was up side down, and turned around . Shock, that was all I could do, was panic. I was going to have a dead mare and foal, this was my worst nightmare. It took what seemed like forevery for the Dr. to turn that baby around, he was fighting him inside. Our vet was covered in all of the baby's fluids, so after that stress, they put Scottie in a stall to get to work. She didn' t do anything, she was tired. So, he rolled up his sleeves again, and pulled the whole baby out. It was the biggest, bay, colt I have every seen. Which, the big part didn't help mom during all the drama. He looks just like Scottie, very dark, no paint markings, but will be reg. with quarter horse. Please pray that Scottie and the Baby will most likely be fine, the vet said it was just one of thos freak accidents. But Prayer is so important, so thank you so much. They will be coming home in a day or so, just so our vet can monitor them. I am sorry we decided to take her up to the clinic, but it was a split life and death decision we made. If the colts bag had seperated, we would have had a dead foal and dead mare. Thank you for your Prayers. Thanks, Taylor

8:00PM UPDATE!

Ok, so day two of the dripping of milk. Scottie is acting very agitated, and lots of kicking, tail swishing too. So, definitely keep an eye out, LOW ALERT, so don't spend all evening just mare staring, your eyes will dry up on you. I will be here, call if you think somethings up, thanks. Be praying for a text-book birth, healthy mare and foal, maybe a filly for kicks. Thanks all, Taylor.

Drippy Drop...

Scottie is still dripping milk at about 3:30 pm here, slowly, but still dripping. It seems to pick up when she is in the stall. She was very unhappy last night, and this morning as well. I am thinking she will go tonight, but I could be wrong, since I have been wrong before....LOL. We will be breeding Fixation back to Hank (I Got Charisma) today or tomorrow. Guess which baby is the "boss", Fletcher!!! I know, he is the youngest one at the moment, and bosses poor Banner around. He is quite embarrassed. Hopefully we will have a nice filly tonight....We can dream anyways. Taylor

Its raining, in more ways than one....

Hey guys. Hope everyone had a great day yesterday, I wasn't doing so hot myself. But anyways.... Scottie is dripping milk this evening/afternoon. I didn't notice it until she started moving around, I was like yeah!!!! So, "usually" (lol) it can be 12 to 24 hours till foaling.... all of the mares (excluding Fixation) this year have followed that "rule". Though, Missy and Ruth decided to do the 24 hours part. So, maybe we will get a healthy beautiful filly tonight. Lets hope anyways. Now, I think we will be taking the "Ruth" approach, being, when Scottie has the baby, we will wait till we see the tip of the foals legs, before getting all in her business. But, if something goes wrong, like we need to pull, we will jump in sooner. I would like her to go tonight, I will be gone tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for watching guys. Talk to yall later. Taylor

We are ready, when she is....

Scottie is waxed and ready to go. She still is not happy about being in the stall, still. She finally calmed down around 1 am. All the babies are good. Banner and Fletcher are so curious of each other, but are to afraid to investigate. LOL. We decided to turn Missy/Omaha back out with the open/just bred mare pasture. Omaha is just fine, wasn't a happy camper at first. But his momma is the boss, so he has nothing to worry about. I am hoping we will have a FILLY, since this is our final mare to foal out this year! As long as it is healthy and safe, I really don't care. Thank to yall later. Taylor

The Cam Is UP and RUNNING!

I am very happy! They (Verizon) fixed the camera early today, so that was great! I have Fixation and Fletcher on the one of the cameras right now, and Scottie will be back on around 8 to 9 this evening. Scottie bag is really big, teats are full, and is waxing on and off. She unfortunately has an abscess, and has to be in the stall till our soaked pasture dries up a little. And, she isn't happy about it at all either, lol. The boys are great, everyone is happy and growing! Everyone thinks, just by looking at him, that Fletcher is a girl. LOL. They think he is very feminine looking, which, I can agree. He definitely looks differnet from our Halter horses, hehehe. Anyways, I got some straw today, very pretty straw at that, so if we think she is with in a few days, I will put some down. I haven't really, really examined her today, but I will do my usual check ups tonight. If anything new is going on, I will definitely update! Taylor

Fixation's Colt is named..... (drum roll please)

Fletcher. I know, kind of long, but it fits Fix's big boy. He is so different than Scout was a foal, she "was" very scared of people, pretty much until she was weaned. Flech is very quiet, and curious, loves to rub his tiny muzzle all over your face. He is so sweet. We rebred Ruth back to Hes Tee Totally Cool, hopefully it will only take one breeding, since he doesn't live in TX anymore. But seriously, how could you not breed her back with a foal like Banner?!? He has really gotten muscular, especially for being only about 10 or 11 days old and being N/N. We decided to go a head and put Scottie in a small stall, since her front foot has been bothering her lately. I am sure the extra weight doesn't help at all either. If you don't know, Scottie got an injury as a foal that really tore up her front foot. It doesn't really bother her, but if she is over weight, has an abscess, or both, it really can give her a tough time. Unfortunately I think she has both, we are working with the shoer though, which helps. She has a nice comfortable stall with tons of shavings, so she can start resting her little legs. She is bred to Hes Tee Totally Cool too, so hopefully we will get a beautiful filly! I won't press my luck on the filly part. LOL. The cam will be fixed on Tues, and according to how close Scottie is, Fixation and Fletcher should be on there. Hope you had a great weekend.

Outside Pics of the new addition....

(Pics of Banner/Omaha below!)Hey guys, the cam will be fixed on Tues., and Fix and her unamed colt (lol) will be on the camera. Seems like I barely got any pics of this guys lovely spot, some of his little spot, lol. When you got it, flaunt it, just kidding.Scottie will be our last mare to go, so let pray for her to wait untill the cam is fixed, and for a filly....LOL. Bye, Taylor

Banner and Omaha Pics....

Hey all here are some pics of Banner and Omaha, I thought you would enjoy today!

The cam won't be fixed till Tuesday.....

So, until then, pray that Scottie will wait. I don't think she is ready though, where have you heard that before???LOL. Well, Fixation's colt (no name yet) had about thirty minutes outside today, he is so quiet and cute. I thought Banner was quiet, now he is a playful silly colt! I am very pleased with this guy, all of them for that matter. Anyways, a mare to watch is "Cat" on wefoal, J Bar S Ranch. She is really close, and poor Shelby is so tired, that is the owner, so help her out please!!!! I will talk to yall later, pics below! Taylor

PICTURES, SET 1!!!! MORE BELOW

PICTURES!!!

Here is my baby boy!

SURPRISE ALL!!!!

Well, Fixation decided to foal early this morning, outside. I missed it.... I am so sorry guys, I know how much you all enjoy watching these births, but mares will be mares. LOL. Plus the cam hasn't been fixed yet, grrrr, I am going to get somebody today about that. The most important thing is that The COLT is healthy, and a PAINT!!!! Yeah, God is doing wonders this year. Although it is raining colts every where I go. LOL. He is beautiful, huge crazy blaze, white eyelashes on one eye, Four white stockings, a large spot, and three small ones. Fixation has the biggest foals. I can't wait to see what this colt does as a show horse. It would be great if he was bred to paints and warmbloods, (I am a warmblood/ hunter fan....LOL). Or even geld him and show him. He is going to be a mover and jumper. His shoulder and bone structure is perfect. If any of you are wondering, Fixation is a TB mare, and the colts father is I Got Charimsa. The horse is going to be amazing. I will post tons of Pics today. Thank you all so much, and I am so sorry! Taylor

Still Having Cam Problems.....

UGHH..... Camera still not working today, and I am not sure when it will be fixed. But Fixation is not extremely close. So, nothing new to report . All the horses are great, Omaha is doing great on the lead rope. Banner is just a sweet heart, loves to be rubbed all over, although Ruth still isn't thrilled about that. Scottie is not doing much all, she has decided not to foal this year at all, LOL, she doesn't have a choice! Taylor

Technical Difficulties.....grrrr

All the horses are fine, the cam just isn't working. Today Verizon cut our barn cam cords, on accident, so I can't be to mad at them. I am not sure when it will be fixed, but I assure you, it will be soon. lol. All of the babies are very good. We are going to cut back on Ruth's food, because he is a little over in his legs. Imagine, us, over feeding?!? LOL. Many people call Harpole Farms, The Fat Farm, hey, I like my horses healthy. Well, Fixation's bag is huge. She still has a bit to go, before we through her in the stall. We are having such beautiful weather, it would be a shame to put her up if she has a ways to go. Scottie looks like it will be a couple weeks before she goes, as of today, but that could change in a heart beat. So, the last two mares are both over there due dates, great. But hopefully Fixation won't go as late as she did last yr, plus, she was quite unhealthy during the last 5 months of that pregnancy. And if any of you are wondering why we let her stay preg. during that time, there was absolutely nothing we could do, and we bred her back because she was doing so well two months after Scout was born. Ok, so I hope everyone is having a good week. Taylor

Some Progress.....

We are making lots of progress with Ms. Fixation. Her bag is really big, so that is very good! Scottie isn't doing much. Little Banner is doing fantastic, just is a sweety, mom isn't thrilled with his love for human affective. LOL. Omaha is doing really well too, his butt is so big and has some serious muscle, so cute. Today Omaha was led up to his stall like a "big boy". He did so well, never reared or did a back flip, was a bit nervous, but he soon realized it wasn't a biggy. That was probably the best any of our foals have ever done. We usually use a "butt rope", with is a big laso that goes over the foals rear, over their back and through the halter, so when you pull they come, lol. We will wait a bit longer to put Missy and Ruth out together, Missy isn't that great about sharing a paddock with other moms and babies, mostly it being Ruth. (They have never been the best of friends, lol) Ok, Lady, Sis, and Abby are all preg-check, and infoal! Missy is bred, so we will be checking for a heart beat when that time comes. We will not be breeding Ruth on her foal heat, we usually don't anyways. So remember: Lady is in foal to Kids Classic Style, Sis is in foal to Mr. Yella Fella, Abby is caring the first one of Sis's Mr. Yella Fella foals, and Missy will be in foal to Image of Kid (who has had quite a few paints, lol). I just recently realized that a dead foal was born at Ellis Quarter Horses, I am so sorry to Cooleah, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis for this loss. You and all that have had a foal, mare, or both pass away this year are in my prayers!

I think....

We may have decided on a name, for now anyways.... "Banner". It comes from two horses, one being a stallion in "My Friend Flicka" and the other being after one of John Wayne's horses, a big sorrel in many of his movies. This guy is a sweet heart, as you can probably see on the cam. Has more personality than any other three day old colt I have ever met! Eventhough Ruth isn't sure if she likes the idea of him being so friendly towards people....LOL. Anyways, I am just having a lot of fun with this guy. Hope you all are enjoying watching him. Taylor

Outside Pics! (LOTS....lol)

Hey guys, here are some pictures of the colt and Ruth outside for the first time! And, yes, he will have a name by this evening, lol. He is so cute, very gentle and quiet too. We bred Missy yesturday to Image of Kid, we will check her tomorrow. So, now just two more mares to go! Fixation and Scottie. I don't think either of them are super close. Maybe by next weekend? I am not really sure. Anyways, enjoy!

Pics!!!! Of our Beautiful Mom and Boy!

Hey guys, just want to say THANK YOU again, I love experincing this with you! Ok, this colt is amazing, this is what you bred for, comformation is so of the best we have bred!!!!! Has the perfect 10 head, and is just amazing all over, and I am not sure if you noticed but, he is huge!!! Will take some more soon. Taylor

A BEAUTIFUL COLT!!!!

Whewww, Ruth had an awesome overo stud colt at around 1:30 am! This guy was huge, I don't think Ruth could have done it if we hadn't of stepped in. We were down there, trying not to bother her. But she knew, and almost turned around and looked at us like "I really need help." It is amazing how horses communicate isn't it? Well, this little guy has a really big blaze, tall stockings that pass his joints, white all up his jaw and chin. He is amazing, Ruth had a world champion stud prospect. He will be double registered since "dad" is both APHA/AQHA. He doesn't have blue eyes, that I can tell. I was a little disappointed that he wasn't a filly, but seriously, who cares. Thanks for all of your prayers and calls. I finally got some sleep tonight, and probably would have slept through it if Debbie hadn't of called. SO THANK YOU everyone!!!! And thanks Debbie from Virginia, for letting me catch some zzzzs. LOL. That is another successful birth, a little shaky at first, but God was definitely working. Well, I am so tired, Ruth is too. I am hitting the hay shortly. He hasn't nursed yet, but he is a colt.... Took Omaha 3 or 4 hours to nurse. But this little guy is pretty smart, stood up really fast. Anyways, if you think anything is wrong please do call. I really appreciate yall watching and calling, I can't express that over the phone or internet, but Thank You. Taylor

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Ok, I did say 12 to 24 hours....LOL

Well, I usually don't like to say "I think she will foal tonight", because I might be wrong. I put my bet on last night or tonight, so we will have to wait and find out. Ruth has been dripping milk all day, is moving around a lot (you all are like, all she does is put her butt up against the wall). She seriously can't not go in a day or so. There is no way, she is huge, her bag is huge, her butt has changed shape... The list goes on and on. So, hopefully she will go tonight, I am so exhausted. I might need help watching her tonight. Ok, Fixation is due on Saturday, and Scottie is due on Monday. So far, never one looks like they will go before then, at this moment. Both have a ways to go. So, enjoy watching this crazy girl, hehehehe. Taylor P.S. I have explained the "game plain" for Ruth in the below posts. Thanks

RUTH DRIPPING MILK!

Hey all. Ruth is dripping a lot of milk tonight. Very unhappy, biting sides, swishing tail. I think she will go tonight, but, I could always be wrong. But in my experience, they usually go when they start to drip milk, 12 to 24 hours later. But every mare is different. Please call us if you see her in labor. We won't be in the stall until the legs/sack is hanging out. Ruth is a very shy mare, she will appreciate the privacy. Thanks, Taylor

It Could Be TONIGHT.

There is no way she can't go tonight. She has be agitated all day, very uncomfortable this morning too. She has been producing milky wax all day, and it just keeps coming. I am not sure if she is in fact dripping milk, because she wouldn't let me stand there long enough, though I think it may have been a mixture of wax and milk. So, it seems impossible that she won't go tonight. Praying for a text book delivery, and a healthy momma and foal. Lady has been confirmed in foal to Kids Classic Style! Missy is coming into heat, finally, thanks for your prayers, lol. Sis is still infoal, but pray that she will stay that way, she has a little bit of fluid in her uterus. Ok, so defiantly watch Ruth tonight, she is closer than close. LOL. Oh, a reminder. If you think Ruth is in early labor, you can call us. But, we will wait until the sack is showing to go down there on her, just because of her trust of us in that kind of situation. Thanks everyone! Taylor

No Baby Yet....GGGRRRR

Well, Now we are two days past Ruth's due date. She is the same, white sticky wax, huge bag, dropped belly, and soft sunken in tail/rear. We are at the "can go any time now' stage. She seems really uncomfortable, and this morning was agitated and swishing her tail a lot. I was worried about going to church and leaving her by herself outside, but of course, she didn't foal. LOL. Yeah, so I am really hoping she will go tonight. I am so ready to see this foal! I might go out to dinner tonight, so hopefully she will wait until I get back. Oh, Don't you guys just love the time change! Yeah, right. Taylor P.S. I might leave a 9:00pm update, not sure how beneficial it would be, since nothing is changing. Another good sign is that her bag hasn't regressed in a few days.....hehehe.

We Are Extremely Close, No Joke

Hey all, Ok. As you all can see, last night I decided to put straw down for Ruth. When I checked her, she has a lot of white sticky wax on both teats, as well this morning. Yesterday was her due date. She is huge, her bag is enormous! She has been staying away from the other horses today, and seems uncomfortable, but like I said, so would you if you where pregnant for 11 months. LOL. Anyways, I will check her again this evening and give you a heads up on her. I am thinking she should go in a couple of days, we are definitely ready. So, start watching, I will be too. Hope you all are enjoying the foal watching!!!!! Fixation and Scottie are building their bags at a normal pace. Little Omaha is not so little anymore. He is such a cutie pie. I will get some more pics of him this week. Just a reminder, the post below has the remaining due dates, and website links to the studs we bred our mares to. Oh, and yes, all the foals will be for sale. Prayers for all who have mares foaling. Taylor

About the same tonight

Well, everything looks ready to go. Ruth's bag can't get any bigger, she is as big as a bus, and her rear is super soft. So, When will she go? I am afraid that no one really knows. Yeah, we can hope everyday, but that doesn't mean she will go. This is what we call in the horse business The Waiting Game. LOL. Today is Ruth's due date, so, maybe she will be like Missy and Lady, who always go on their due dates, or like Fixation last yr, who waited a very long time while showing all of the usual signs.... We will soon find out I guess. Today was a little muggy, around 80 degrees, a bit warm for my taste, but pretty good weather for a foal to be born. Ruth better hurry up though, we have three close mare and only one foaling stall.... This could get interesting, if of course she stalls until Fix and Scottie are ready to go. Ok, Remember, The 2007 due dates that are left are: Ruth/March 9th (today), Fixation March 17th, Scottie March 19th. Got it? Ok, here are the daddies to be: Ruth and Scottie are bred to the double registered stallion Hes Tee Totally Cool, While Fixation is bred to the amazing I Got Charisma. Just a reminder, Omaha's sire is CK Kid. So, we have a chance of having all Paint babies this year, since both Ruth and Scottie are bred to a APHA/AQHA stud. I personally only need Fixation to have one, but it might be fun to have some color. LOL. I will talk to everyone later, have a great weekend. Taylor

We may be close

Hey all. Well, Ruth's bag was huge, tight and warm tonight. She has be agitated all day, and walking around with her tail lifted up. Plus her back end has softened. It would be an absolutely gorgeous day to have a foal. The weather was perfect, I took Classi on a bareback trail ride. Of course she was more interested in eating grass than anything else. I have been staying up till about 1 to 1:30 every night, just to see what Ruth is doing. Tonight, I might have to wake up every few hours, fun. At least I have all of you watching too, that helps a lot. Ok, here is a picture of Hes Tee Totally Cool, just in case you guys haven't seen him. I am hoping for a filly myself. As long as it is healthy, I am fine. Hopefully we will have a beautiful baby in a couple of days. She is due tomorrow. Taylor

Maybe a little progress...

Tonight Ruths bag looked really tight and huge, so that is good. Plus she didn't regress while being outside all day, another good thing. I don't know if she had any wax or not. I had just put up some shower curtains on the outside of her stall, and she wasn't thrilled, so she was jumping around, and I couldn't check. But, I don't know how much longer she can go, her bag get get much bigger.... so we will just have to see. Fix's bag is about the same, and Scottie is coming a long nicely. Scottie is limping though, from a old injury when she was a foal. It does fine when she isn't so big, but in her last month of pregnancy that isn't a whole lot we can do about her being fat. lol. We gave her a tiny bit a pain medicine, just to make her more comfortable. While putting up the shower curtains I cut my finger really bad, it was a gusher.... Luckily it seems to just be a really deep cut. By the way, the shower curtain didn't cut me, it was a sharp pair of scissors. Well, before I go, Congrats to Rockin B Paints, on three healthy foals in 12 hours, get some rest and coffee! Taylor P.S. Remember, Ruth is due Friday, bred to Hes Tee Totally Cool, and she is brown, he is sorrel. So, maybe this year we will get a different color other than sorrel, lol.

A smidgen of Wax This Evening

This is a first, Ruth had a small amount of wax this evening, which the past few days she has only had in the early morning. Her bag is huge, and she was uncomfortable last night. She laid down really early, for her, a few times, and was rolling. So she could have been positioning the foal completely. Missy was always dramatic when she does that... Anyways. Hopefully if she does decide to foal this week, it will be between the hours of 10 to 1 o'clock at night, not 4 or 5. LOL. I wish I could really control that. Fixation's bag is about the same, but Scottie was dramatically different today. Going from a next to nothing bag, to developing one. Everyone is fine, beautiful weather today again, a little windy, but other wise great. I am going to start putting a fly mask on Missy during the day, around her eyes are getting a little sunburned.... Well, thanks for watching these crazy horses with me! Taylor

The Karate Kid or Horse...

Wax on wax off.... So we had a little wax this morning, we are making progress!!!! Ruth's bag is huge, and I think her belly has dropped down, meaning she is positioning the foal. I say "I think" because she is extremely large, and it is very difficult to see her pelvic bones as it is, but I am fairly confident. So, I would guess we might be a couple of days away, remember this is a guess, I have been wrong many times! She is much more comfortable in the stall, so I am hoping that this will encourage her to feel safe foaling in the stall. I have a feeling that if she foals in the stall, it will be between two and four in the morning, nobody said it is a fun job watching mares! LOL. So, we will just have to wait and find out. Well, Omaha is growing into a fine upstanding gentleman, such a nice colt, I love him to death. I think he will be so spook proof when he is a show horse. For example: We have a huge blue tarp in their paddock, under a shed, with tons of hay under it. Anyways, when the wind is blowing like crazy, it blows up and dances around. Well, Omaha tries to stand on it, and investigate what is going on, all the while Missy is as far away from the scary tarp as possible. Hehehe. Fixation is in that stage of "bag building" where one side fills up some, at a time. So, today she was uneven, but a good size bag. Ruth better hurry up, or Fix is going to catch her on the back stretch. And Scottie is not doing very much, maybe a tiny bit, nothing to dramatic though, which is good, since I don't need three mares foaling so close together. Have a great night, have fun watching Ruth! Taylor

Ruth

Hey, this morning Ruth's bag was still in that regressed stage, but this evening was much bigger, so that is good news. No wax again though, so I wouldn't say tonight! LOL. Well, nothing else to really report, night, Taylor

Saturday, March 03, 2007

Nothing New

Well, everything is about the same, no wax this morning. Her bag has regressed, which is normal. Once it stops regressing during the day, we will be extremely close. She seems good though, not to uncomfortable or anything. So, I am not sure when exactly she will decide to go. Remember she is due on the 9th. We will just have to see! We are having a cold front come in tomorrow, so that could get her moving in the right direction. Have a great weekend! Taylor

Friday, March 02, 2007

No wax this morning....

Yeah, so no wax this morning, and her bag seemed to have regressed a little. So, we maybe a few days off. On the cam I said about a week, I think less than a week, we should have a nice healthy baby. Everyone else is fine. Fixation has a really good size bag right now. I hope she won't go late like she did last year though. I really think that she might have because of all of her prefoaling complications. For all who don't know, last yr while Fix was in foal with Scout, she got out of the pasture and into the yard and preceded to fall off a 9 ft retaining wall by the barn. We think one of the other horses bit her, causing her to retreat of that wall. She snapped and broke a couple bone, causing her to be stall bound for many months, and losing all the muscle in her rear. Luckily she is perfectly healthy this year, and back to running around and playing, just not bucking. lol. She actually looks pregnant this yr too! Anyways, I found a fun site you guys should go to www.horsenamegame.com , I put all of the foals ,unborn and born, on it. Don't add to many names, there are already a ton, but if ya got a good one, put it on there, and you can vote for the ones you like. It is really cool. Do you guys think I should put a more recent pic of Omaha on their? Thanks, Taylor

Ruth Update

Ruth is looking good, had some wax this morning, not as much as yesturday though. Today, It was windy and chilly, and for some odd reason Ruth decided to cool down even more in the freezing cold water? Mares.... Anyways, tonight her bag was huge, and full. Didn't see wax, as of this moment though. But She looks ready to go, I am hoping sooner than later! Here are some random pictures I took today, enjoy. Taylor
