Hey There, Update on 07 Breeding....
Ok, Sorry, I didn't post yesterday because I felt terrible all day. Something is going around my house.... Anyway, Omaha is thriving. He is still a little wary of people, but loves to play chase and hide and go seek. LOL. We have decided to bred Missy (this year) to Sierras Tribute, who funny enough, my dad considered buying quite a while back. He has no impressive breeding, and is gorgeous. I think we may be breeding him to Missy, Scottie, and Ruth.... Depending on what Scottie and Ruth's babies look like this year. I am usually not one who likes breeding three horses to the same stud, but I really like him. So, For now that the decision for those three, We are breeding Lady to Kids Classic Style, and Sis to Mr. Yella Fella. (Links for both stallions are below) We haven't really thought about Fixation, she just had an awesome cross last year with I Got Charisma.... So that is my vote so far. LOL. I think we are also going to be breeding Classi (Classi Robin), my retired World Champion jumper. She has had two foals in the past, both paints, but she didn't through height at all. So, I am thinking, bred her to a non-paint stallion, that is about her size or smaller. She is 15.3 by the way, some say she is short, but she is the best mover and jumper anyone has seen, and has outstrided 17 hand horses, yeah Go Classi! I found this awesome Andalusian, yeah you heard me, he is gorgeous! I would love to have a jumper/dressage horse. So, I do love Friesians though, but I think that would be a waist of Classi's time. I don't think I need a 15 hand Draft, lol.... but I would still love to bred one of my horses to a Friesian one day. Anyways, I will have to post a pic of Classi, the best horse in the world this week. I will catch all you guys later. Taylor

Hey Taylor!
I have been wanting to post since Omaha was born, but I am having a lot of trouble with this blog account. Everytime I go to log in it does not accept my password for some reason and I have to reset it every time. So, it takes effort to post and I just haven't had the time to fight with it! Have you thought about doing a message board? :O)
Sorry, this is going to be a longer post because I haven't been able to do one in so long. A late congratulations on the birth of Omaha. Although you didn't get the filly you hoped for, I know you must be having fun with this little guy. They are all so much fun and you end up loving them no matter what they come out to be. Glad to hear that he will most likely be registered overo. That is definitely a plus over being a sorrel solid colt! Seems like we always got at least one of those a year.
If you do end up with a second sorrel colt, which I'm sure you are hoping as I am doesn't happen, I thought a cute name would be "Pi". Since you have your theme going, that one would come from National Velvet. When she shortened "The Pi's" name from Pirate. Here's a cute website on it. http://brokenwheelranch.com/national_velvet.htm
Or even King or King Blaze, as that was the tv show horse name.
Anyways, just another name idea for you. Hopefully you will have loud colored fillies the rest of the foaling season and won't have to consider that one though! :O)
I'm looking forward to next year's foaling season already with the line-up of stallions you have given! I love KCS and Mr YF! That is going to be so exciting. I didn't realize you had so many mares to breed. It seems like it has only been four these past two foaling seasons.
Well, now for what I was really going to write about...I read on Bev's message board about your problem with Omaha. There is something that has really worked for us so I thought I would share. We had one foal who was also a sorrel overo colt and he wanted to kick from day one. We got one of the large Folger coffee cans and put some small rocks in it and closed it up. Then when he would go to do that I would tap him on the hip with it. It wasn't really ment to hurt him, but more to scare him out of doing it because of the loud noise and surprise. He quickly stopped that behavior and ended up being the most laid back colt. We have also done that with others and it has worked every time. So, thought I would share that suggestion!
I know it's got to be tough with not feeling well. Hopefully you will be doing much better soon, get this little guy out of his habit and enjoy him some more! Especially since you have some time before the next ones are due. Boy is that going to be busy! Looking forward to it!
Jay
P.S. Thanks for keeping up with the updates, it has really made foal watching on your farm very enjoyable!
So sorry with all your blogger trouble, yeah I am really considering putting a message board up, I love Bevs, it rocks. We are planning on fixing up the website after the foals are born, so I can do it without the help of our trusting computer tamer...lol. Anyways, that is a great idea about Omaha! I will have to try that, got to fid a coffee can though, we have the plastic ones. Yeah, I am so glad he will register. We have a chance of having all paints this year, since Scottie and Ruth are bred to a double registered horse, they are both quarters themselves. Plus Fix is bred to a paint, so I am counting on a lound jumper. lol. I can't beleive I hadn't thought of PI!!!! I love National Velvet! Yeah on the so many mare thing, We bought scottie/ruth last year not in foal (that was risky;), And we just had three foals last year. We had given sis a year off, and unfortunatly that became two years. So, Now we are breeding maybe seven mares this year.... But we are thinking of selling two of our broodmares, since we are keeping scout and bought two recip mares. I love lady and sis, but we have had them for so many years now, and I definatly couldn't give up Fix or Missy... So I really have no idea??? Anyways, Thanks for the post, and I hope you get my very long one too. lol Taylor
This isnt showing too coments on here???? stupid thing
Hey Taylor!
Glad you found my message! That would be really nice if you put in a message board - at least for me!! haha I'll be lucky when I actually get to post this message...I know I'll have to reset my password again before it will let me. Oh well.
I love it when there is a chance for color when the foals are born. That is going to make watching your mares that much more fun. You did great squeaking by with Omaha, now if the rest will just follow suit! Albeit with a little more color. :O)
Well now you have the name Pi in your back pocket just in case, but like I said, hopefully you won't have to use it! Come on loud colored fillies!
That is such a toughie when deciding how to downsize. You have to deal with your heart on who you want to keep and who you know is going to be the best for your breeding program. You are definitely picking some awesome stallions to breed to, so you have so much to consider! I know I am looking forward to more mares to watch next year when you breed that many though!
Hey, at least your post wasn't as long as my first one! Hopefully you get this one too...You'll have to check it because we know it won't show up on the main message board!
Talk to you soon if you get it,
Jay
Oh, I went and looked up the mares again so I could become more familiar, and re-looked at Lady and Sis. That would be SUCH a hard decision to sell them. I think those two have my favorite breeding of them all. They are super nice. Especially with the stallions you are going to breed them to! You are going to have some knock-out foals!! I would selfishly say don't sell those two, that way I can watch them from the cam and wish they were mine! haha Of course you have to fall in love with Missy and her beauty from the get go! Decisions, decisions... :O) Nah, I know you're going to do what is best for your farm and the horses. You guys are going a great job. Good luck Taylor!
