Farewell Barbaro....

Hello All, I heard today that The Great Barbaro was put down. It was so sad, but I really think he was in so much misery. We had the best filly, Sheila, she was Skipper W on the bottom, and Touchdown Kid on the top. She was the perfect horse, we kept her in hopes of breeding her to Golden Gunslinger. But we found her in the pasture, missing her back leg from the hock down. It was horrible, and there was really nothing we could do, but put her down. It was in her best interest. At some point you have to decide are you trying to save them for your own sake, or theirs? It is an unfortunate part of life, being separated from the animals we love, they are family. But I know that I will see them again. :( But on a happier note, Omaha the pistol has become Omaha the sweet and loving pistol. LOL. He has seemed to have figured out that we could be his people friends, and his personal but scratchier....LOL. Yeah, that the ways to pick friends. I will have to take a pic of him running around the stall with my glove, he LOVES it. His teeth are slowly coming in, and anything he can chew on without getting in trouble is so fun to play with. So I give him my glove and he throws his head around and rears.....SOOO cute. I am so proud of the little guy, he is letting me walk up and pet him, finally! YEAH, K, I am sure you have heard enough?!? Thanks, Taylor
"You are a great champion. When you ran the ground shook. The sky opened and mere mortals parted. Parted the way to victory. Where you will meet me in the winner's circle. Where I will lay a blanket of flowers on your back." Farwell our great champ!

Yeah, that was sad news about Barbaro indeed. But, as you said in your post, Taylor, we have had sad news of our own at times pertaining to the horses and it is for the best of the horse that must ultimately be decided. Even the greatest of champions to the lowliest loved pony is not immune to the many things that can happen to a horse.
I notice you love to qoute movie lines! This is something that we do often too. I think the one where you had every one guess the movie qoute was from Seabiscuit right? It's been so long since I've seen it, but it sounds familiar. That and the Brick by brick my citizens, brick by brick, which I know was qouted in Seabiscuit. Then of course the one from Dreamer in this post. I notice they're all horsey movies though. ;o)
Thanks for the updates Taylor!

I am so glad I came across your website/blog. I was so sad about Barbaro, but I completely understood the decision that was made. So, on a lark today, when I certainly should have been working, I did a search for foal cams, and happened upon your site. After watching Omaha and mom for a few minutes, my spirits perked right back up and I checked out the blog!

It put the circle of life back in the right perspective... and I now have every intention of keeping track of the foals and how they grow!
